Campbell Chapman
Girl's Director

Campbell enjoyed a  professional soccer playing career of over ten years and  played in England, Sweden, Finland, Malta and Qatar. During this time the clubs  he played for included Wolverhampton Wanderers (England), West Bromich Albion (England), IFK Ostersund (Sweden), Kaskinen IK (Finland), Birkakara FC (Malta) and Al Ahli Sports Club (Qatar). 

In 1986 Campbell was invited to participate with the Northern Ireland U23 national team.  During his playing career he played with  some of the top players of their time including David Platt (England National Team Captain), David Seaman (England and Arsenal goalkeeper), Jari Litmannen (Finland and Ajax) and Colin Clarke (Northern Ireland, Portsmouth and MLS FC Dallas Head Coach).

The progression to move into coaching followed, and after working with youth and semi professional players in England, Campbell moved to the United States in 1993 and joined the coaching ranks in Georgia. He joined GSA and at that time  became  the third full time Director of Coaching in Georgia . Campbell’s philosophy is about developing players. He believes the young players must be taught the correct techniques and encouraged to use them in practices and games. He also believes that players develop as they learn from their experiences and that the game itself is the best teacher.

In January of 2007 Campbell took the position as Girls Director, he also became the head coach of the GSA Phoenix 92 Red, 93 Red and 95 Red team. The 92s were State Cup winners in 2007 and 2009, were 2009 Regional Champions and finished 4th in the US Youth Soccer National Championships.  The 93s are 5 time State Cup winners and R3PL Champions in 2007 and 2009.  In 2009 the 93s were Regional Finalists losing 0-2 in the final match. The 95s were 2008 State Cup winners and 2009 R3PL finalists.  In the summer of 2008 Campbell was invited to be a Region Staff coach and in 2009 was named the assistant coach of the U19 Region team.  The team beat the Mexican U20 National team 2-0 in a exhibition game.  Later in the year he was the head coach of the U19 Region team that attended the Inter-Regional National Camp where the girls finished 2-0-1.  Campbell has served as the the Assistant Coach to the Women's W-League Atlanta Silverbacks for the past 2 years.  The team has been Conference Champions advancing to the playoffs each year.

Campbell has coached State ODP teams which have included Ricardo Clarke (MLS Houston Dynamo), Justin Moore (MLS FC Dallas) and Lawson Vaughn (MLS LA Chivas) and in 2005 coached the Georgia 89 ODP team to the National Championships Final Four. Campbell coached the GSA Phoenix 89 Girls, State Champions 2005, 2006 ,Regional Semi finalist 2005,2006 and were R3PL champions in 2005.

He holds a English FA Prelim Certificate and the USSF A License.

 

Nuno Piteira
Boy's Director

Coach Piteira directs all activities on the boy's side at GSA and has lead two of the states top youth clubs over the past ten years.  He has coached multiple State Champions and has coached teams representing Georgia at the Regional & National level as well.  Nuno is also active in the Olympic Development Program (ODP) and has produced players that have represented Georgia at the State, Regional & National level youth teams.  Nuno currently serves on both the ODP staff for Georgia and Region III.

Nuno has a background in Education from Coastal Carolina University and holds a US Soccer "A" license, the US National Youth license and the English FA Preliminary Certificate. 

Coach Piteira came to Atlanta in 1999 to coach the Atlanta Silverbacks professional team.  During his two years with the Silverbacks, he guided the franchise to their winning season.  Before coming to Atlanta, Piteira coached the Charleston Battery professional team (1994-1998) where he led the club to its first professional National Championship in 1996.  In six and a half seasons as a professional coach, Nuno compiled a 92-54 win/loss record.  He was the 1995 Atlantic Division Coach of the Year, the 1996 National Coach of the Year and coach of the 1997 Eastern Conference All Star Team. 

Before turning to the professional side of soccer, Nuno spent seven seasons coaching at the collegiate level.  This included Assistant Coach at Coastal Carolina (1988-1992) he helped lead them to three Big South Conference Championships and saw them advance to the NCAA Div I Sweet Sixteen.  As Assistant Coach at College of Charleston (1992-1994) where they won two TAAC conference championships and advanced to the NCAA Div I Final Eight.    Nuno also served as the Head Coach of the Women's team at the College of Charleston for one season in 1998 where he lead the team to its first post season appearance.  He served as Director of Coaching at Trident United, one of the most successful youth clubs in the state of South Carolina.  He coached teams to two state championships during his three year tenure. 

Nuno started his coaching career at Keith County Day School in Rockford, Illinois where he lead the program to two small school state titles in two years. Nuno is originally from Portugal where he played his youth soccer at the world famous SL Benfica.  Nuno played his college soccer at former NAIA/Division III power Rockford College in Illinois and he later played semi professional soccer in the LASA League of New England. 

Nuno has studied under soccer greats as Carlos Queiroz (currently Portugal National Team Head Coach), Jorge Jesus (currently head of SL Benfica), and Graham Souness (Former Blackburn, Newcastle).

  

 

Mike Farnham
Director of Player Development

Mike grew up playing soccer during the 1980’s in Wheaton Illinois where youth soccer was booming throughout the Chicago-land suburbs. Under the influence of great teams such as The Chicago Sting, 1982 NASL Champions and the Crusaders of Wheaton College, NAIA Collegiate National Champions in 1984. Mike developed a love for soccer at a very young age and became a standout youth player.

As a club player, Mike played with the Wheaton Wings, the Croatia Soccer Club and Chicago Soccers where he won several outdoor and indoor League and Tournament Titles. Most notable were back-to-back Finalist in the IYSA State Championships (’85, ’86) as well as a trip to the Region II Championships in 1985 and two appearances in the National Croatia Tournament Finals of Canada, winning it in 1987. In 1986 Mike was selected to participate in the prestigious Prairie State Games as a member of the Western Suburbs Region Team. That same year, Mike made history with his identical twin brother Dan as they became the first two brothers to be selected at the same time to the Illinois High School All State “Top 11” Team. In addition, Mike was nominated as the Defensive Player of the Year. Mike carried on to earn a Division I Soccer Scholarship to play for the Huskies of Northern Illinois University, Dekalb (1986-88). In 1989 Mike accepted an offer to play for Coastal Carolina University and in his senior year he Co-Captained the 1990 Chanticleer team to a Big South Championship and a Top 20 Division I Ranking. As a quick, left-footed player with an unrelenting level of tenacity and endurance, Mike excelled as a left back.

Mike’s experience as a coach began during his first year in college where he realized the great passion he had for coaching youth soccer. He now has over 20 years of coaching and administrative experience at the club, high school, college and professional levels with an emphasis on youth players and youth clubs. Whilst at Coastal Carolina University, Mike delved into youth soccer at every opportunity that he could. He earned his “D” State License and was a select coach for the Coastal Futbal Club and Coastal Carolina Soccer Camps (1989-92) as well as an Assistant Coach for his alma mater (1991-92). Mike graduated from CCU with a BA and majored in History.

An opportunity in 1994 to become the first DOC for the James Island Youth Soccer Club prompted Mike to move to Mount Pleasant, SC. During his time in the Charleston area Mike earned his USSF “C” License, he worked as a Head Staff Coach for the Ralph Lundy Soccer Academy and for the SCYSA ODP Program. A highlight for Mike at this time was the 1996 season he spent as an Assistant Coach for the Charleston Battery A-League Team under the mentoring of Nuno Piteira. In 1998, when Mount Pleasant Soccer Club formed and became the largest club in SC Mike jumped at the opportunity to become the first Director of Coaching for MPSC.

In 2000, Mike moved to Atlanta in order to continue his career as a youth soccer coach. He was hired as the Academy Director in 2001 by the Metro North Youth Soccer Association (which would later become NASA) and worked in that capacity until 2006. During his time here in Atlanta Mike has been an ODP Assistant and Head Coach for the ’92 Boys (2005-09) as well as an Instructor for the “F” and “G” Coaching Courses. He earned his USSF “B” License in 2003 and his “A” License and his National Youth License in 2005.

In 2007 Mike joined GSA as the Director of Player Development and he currently oversees the Academy Program and is the Head Coach for the Boys 94 Red Team and 96 Black Team.
