U15 Boy's Region 3 Team Heads to Costa Rica

The United States Under-15 Boy’s Region 3 team will leave for Costa Rica from Feb. 24 to March 5 for international play.  The roster includes GSA's forward/midfielder Kyle Richards of the GSA 95 Phoenix Red.  The region team roster is made up exclusively of players born in 1995.

In Costa Rica, the team will compete against local youth sides and train every day.

Kyle is coached by Ricardo Montoya at GSA and he continues to grow and develop as a player.   We are proud of Kyle and his growing list of accomplishments and we know he will represent GSA and Georgia well on the Region team and during the competitions in the Costa Rica.

U14 Boy's National Team Heads to Guadalajara

The United States Under-14 Boy’s National Team head coach Manny Schellscheidt will lead 36 players to Guadalajara, Mexico, from Jan. 17-24 for international play.  The roster includes GSA's forward Deandre Robinson of the GSA 96 Phoenix Red.  The roster is made up exclusively of players born in 1996, an age group that began training with Schellscheidt in November last year.

Returning from the team’s trip to Disney World last fall are 28 players who competed at a U.S. Youth Soccer event. In Guadalajara, the coach will split the team in two to compete against local youth sides and train every day. We are proud of Deandre and we know he will represent GSA and Georgia well in international play.

Players from GSA U13 Boys Compete in 3v3 National Championship

Players from GSA u13 age group recently competed in the Kickit 3v3 National Championship in Orlando Florida at the Disney World of Sports Complex.

Pursuant to qualifying at the state and regional level, the group ventured to Orlando Florida over the weekend to compete with top teams across the country.

After winning their 4 games in round robin play they won their Quarter final qualifier and entered the final day, unblemished. Their Quarterfinal was played against a very good Vardar Soccer Club that ended up a draw at end of regulation and went to a golden goal overtime period.  GSA bested the group in that time and was now set to stand toe to toe with the eventual National champion from Chicago.  The GSA group ended up in 4th place.

"Reaching the Semi-final list at any national event at Disney is a great feat for any team", commented trainer Dante Trevino.

Boys Roster was as follows: Josiah, Tristen, Giovanni, Luke, Alfredo.

GSA Announces 2009 Scholarship Award Recipients

This program of college tuition awards is supported by GSA in recognition of the contribution youth soccer has made to the development of young people in Georgia. The scholarships are in the form of tuition awards to be used toward expenses in an accredited college, university, or community college, beginning this fall semester. The program is open to those Georgia players currently participating in a bona fide soccer program, including graduating high school seniors, high school graduates who wish to start college, and continuing college students. During their soccer experience the applicants must also have participated on a recreational or select team sponsored by GSA for at least two years.

We are pleased to announce that GSA has chosen John "Travis" Durrance and Emily Fitzgerald as this year's recipients.

We had a record number of applications for the awards this year and all of the applications were outstanding and deserving of the award.  Because there were so many equally deserving applicants, the committee who made the decision finally used the number of years they played at GSA as the overall tie breaker.

Please join us in congratulating both of these individuals.

GSA 95 Phoenix Red Boys Continue their winning ways!

The U15 Phoenix Red Boys continue their winning ways and recently clinched the Georgia Soccer Classic I title.  This caps off a fantastic season where the team went undefeated in league play and only gave up 5 goals all season.  The boys ended up with a 9-0-1 record in league play and a 13-2-3 overall fall record, including 9 shutouts.  The also were semi-finalists in the Atlanta Cup "Cup Flight" and recently won the Dick's Sporting Goods Charlotte Invitational Tournament.  Congratulations to all of the players, coaches and parents for an incredible fall season.  Also, best of luck in your upcoming trip to the Disney Tournament over the holidays.

U12 Academy Boys Chelsea team wins CESA Tournament

The Chelsea team traveled to Greenville, SC in September to represent GSA in the CESA Tournament.  The boys had an outstanding weekend and finished as Champions in their age group.  The team is coached by Junuz Coralic and Pete Fitton.  Congratulations to the boy's, their families and the coaches for representing the club so well.

Congratulations to the U10 Cobras

We would like to recognize and celebrate the results of the recreational U10 Girls Cobras team that recently entered the Lanier Rec Cup Tournament.  The team applied expecting to play in the U10 division.  When there weren't enough U10 teams that applied, the team agreed to be moved up to the U12 division.  The girls finished 3rd in the tournament and represented themselves, their team and GSA with a great deal of heart and commitment.  Congratulations to all of the players as well as their coach, Bob Pereira, for a job well done.

GSA at US Youth Soccer National Championship!

For the first time ever, GSA sends 2 teams to the US Youth Soccer National Championships.  This year's tournament was held in Lancaster, MA, just outside of Boston.  The competition was incredible and the GSA teams played incredibly well.  It was a great fun to watch the competition and to report the play action to our friends via twitter.  The GSA 93 Phoenix Red Boys (U16) finished with a 0-2-1 record while the GSA 92 Phoenix Red Girls (U17) finished with a 0-0-3 record.  Both records were good enough to win both teams the bronze medals in their respective flights.  It should also be pointed out that the U16 Dallas Texas team that beat the GSA boys 1-0 in the finals of the National League went on to win the National Championship in their age group and the U17 girls bracket was won by the Eclipse from Region II, a team that the GSA girls were beating with seconds left in the second game...a game eventually tied 2-2.

It was a great showing and our players, coaches and parents represented GSA with great class and dignity.  They are winners on and off the field and we are looking to a repeat performance next year...best of luck and thanks for all your efforts.

GSA Attacker Recognized - Dominic Bonilla

GSA attacker shows major potential

Nuno Piteira doesn't mince words when describing his talented attacking player Dominic Bonilla.  "I left the professional game in 2000 and have been in the youth game. I think he's what we have been talking about for 20 years in terms of what American soccer needs and is searching for. He's a creative attacking player with the flair you just don't see in American soccer," Piteira, coach of Bonilla's GSA Phoenix U16 Boys squad, said." I can count on one hand since 2000 the players on the youth level who have that kind of flair and creativity on the ball."

Bonilla recently helped the Atlanta-area team qualify for the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships via a runner-up finish in the organization's national league. Before that, he was in Argentina with South Carolina coach Mark Berson's Region III ODP 93s, playing alongside such players as Walker Zimmerman, Darvin Ebanks, Kevin Pahl, Jon Ray and Erick Suarez.

GSA Recognizes ODP Players

We are very proud of the GSA players who represent Georgia, Region 3 of US Youth Soccer and our National team program.  GSA is among the top clubs in Georgia who place this many players in the ODP program and have more ODP players as a percentage of our membership than any other club in Georgia.  Congratulations to the players and coaches for these outstanding results.
