Soccer Sprouts is an introductory soccer program for three year-olds and their families, looking for their first soccer experience. The purpose of the Soccer Sprouts program is to introduce soccer games and skills to young players and ease these youngsters and their families into the dynamics of recreational soccer as well as organized activities.
The Soccer Sprouts program consists of eight, one hour sessions on Saturdays, over the span of a season. Sessions are led by GSA staff coaches, with each player often being assisted by a parent or adult family member on the field. Sessions usually consist of activities and games, followed by 3 vs. 3 scrimmages, using the “New Ball Method.” The “New Ball Method” is the game management system used in games for the 4U, 5U and 6U age groups.
GSA has multiple 4U sessions each Saturday. Players will be assigned a time slot based on many factors (gender, birthday and experience). Each session players are pooled together as training is led by the GSA staff coaches, rather than being placed on teams. This format allows for coaching and training to be passed down from the staff to the parents and onto the players. This method best meets the needs of each individual player.
Our goal is that the 4U Soccer Sprouts program will be a fun and exciting experience for the players and their families. For most young players, this program will be their first experience with soccer and we want it to be a great one!
PROGRAM DATES AND DETAILS:
The first 4U session will be September 12, 2020. The 4U's will meet for a total of 8 sessions, each on Saturday.
The remaining dates for the season are: TBA (generally every Saturday)
*Any additional make-up session will be done either on a Sunday afternoon or weekday (evening).
TIME/GROUPS: The 4U player pool will be split-up into 2 or 3 groups by age/gender, depending on the total number of players. All players will be assigned a group. Sessions can start at 2:30pm, 3:30pm, or 4:30pm. Time slots will be emailed to all parents prior to the first session. Time slots may vary.
SESSIONS - Each session will run approximately an hour. Please remember players will be pooled and will not be on a set team. For the first 3 weeks, players will participate in an introduction of different games and activities. For the remaining weeks, the sessions will be split, with approximately half the session spent on games, skills and activities and the remaining time scrimmaging 3v3, using the "New Ball Method."
